Free Concrete Measurement — Google Earth

Measure any driveway, patio, walkway, or slab in 3 minutes using Google Earth's free measure tool. Works on desktop and mobile.

1

Open Google Earth

Go to earth.google.com on your phone or laptop. Or open the Google Earth app on iPhone/Android.

→ earth.google.com
2

Search the address

Type the property address in the search bar (top left on desktop, magnifying glass icon on mobile). Hit enter. Google Earth zooms you to the property.

3

Tilt to top-down view

Press R on desktop, or tap the compass icon on mobile, to reset to a straight-down view. You should see the driveway / patio / walkway from directly above.

4

Open the Measure tool

Click the ruler icon on the left toolbar (desktop), or tap the 3-dot menu → Measure (mobile).

5

Trace the area outline

Click each corner of the concrete slab, working around the perimeter. When you close the shape, Google Earth shows you the area in square feet.

6

That's your sq ft — done

Concrete is flat, so no pitch correction needed. The number Google Earth gives you IS your square footage. Multiply by thickness to get yardage (calculator does this for you).

Tip: Driveways look bigger from above than they feel in person. Always measure — don't guess. A 20×40 driveway is 800 sq ft, not 600.
7

Plug into the calculator

Back on the Calc tab, enter L × W of each section in Areas to Pour. For irregular shapes, break them into rectangles and add each as a separate Area.

Irregular shapes: An L-shaped patio? Break it into 2 rectangles. A curved driveway? Treat each straight segment as a rectangle. Add each as a separate Area in the calculator. More accurate than averaging.
For exact bids on big jobs: Google Earth is great for ballpark and first quotes. For final bids over $20K, measure on-site with a wheel measurer or tape — Google Earth can be off by 5-10% on small areas.

Driveways: #4 rebar at 18" OC both ways, or 6×6 W2.9 mesh.

Slabs & foundations: Always rebar per structural drawing.

Slope / Drainage

Sidewalk cross slope2% max (ADA)
Driveway slope12% max (1.5"/ft)

Curing

Keep wet 7 days minimum. Curing compound, plastic sheeting, or wet burlap. Skipping curing cuts strength in half.

PNW NOTE: Always spec 5-7% air-entrained concrete for outdoor work. Survives freeze/thaw cycles. Cold weather (under 40°F): blankets + accelerator. Hot weather (over 85°F): pour early AM + retarder.

Formula: Yards = (L × W × T_in / 12) / 27

Shortcut: sq ft × (T_in) ÷ 324 = yards

4" slab: 1 yd ≈ 81 sq ft
6" slab: 1 yd ≈ 54 sq ft
8" slab: 1 yd ≈ 40 sq ft
12" footing: 1 yd ≈ 27 sq ft

Waste Factor

Add 10% for simple slabs. 15-20% for irregular shapes, pump pours, or new crews.

Truck Sizes

Full truck~10 yd, 600 ft hose reach
Short load< 6 yd · expect surcharge

About BSR

Built by Will Brambila, owner of BSR Constructions LLC. A family-owned roofing and exteriors company in Seattle, WA. Founded with my brother Art, we serve Pacific Northwest homeowners and contractors with the same focus every day. Do the work right. Treat people fair. Build something that lasts.

Family-built. Community-driven. Quality roofing & exterior solutions.

Why this tool exists

Every day on jobsites, contractors waste time doing math on the back of an envelope. Estimates take hours that should take minutes. Numbers get fuzzy. Profit gets lost in guesswork.

I built this tool to fix that for my own crew. Then I figured I'd share it.

It's a calculator I actually use. On roofs. In driveways. In front of homeowners. I wanted something that gave me a real bid number in 60 seconds without pulling out a laptop or doing 12 steps of math on a calculator app.

Who it's for

If you're another small business owner, contractor, or estimator out there grinding it out, this is for you too. Free. No login. No email capture. Just open it and use it on the jobsite.
