Different scopes get measured differently. Attic = floor sq ft above. Walls = wall sq ft. Crawl = floor area below (or perimeter for foundation walls).
Length × width of the home's interior footprint at attic level. Don't count over the garage if no insulation needed there.
Perimeter × wall height. Subtract windows/doors only on big openings (sliding doors, garage doors).
Insulating floor above = floor sq ft. Insulating foundation walls = perimeter × height.
Seattle/PNW: Attic R-49 minimum (R-38 acceptable). Walls R-21. Crawlspace R-30 floor or R-21 wall.
Fiberglass batts — Cheapest. Easy install. Standard for walls and floors.
Blown-in cellulose — Best value for attics. Recycled paper. Good sound dampening.
Blown-in fiberglass — Lighter than cellulose. Doesn't settle as much.
Open-cell spray foam — Air seal + insulation. R-3.5 per inch.
Closed-cell spray foam — Premium. R-6 per inch. Vapor barrier + structural.
Rigid foam board — Foundation walls, basement, exterior continuous.
WSEC requires air sealing + R-49 attic for new construction. Existing homes: rebate programs available through Puget Sound Energy.

Attic R-value to depth:
Insulation installs. Sealing top plates, can lights, plumbing/wire penetrations BEFORE blowing insulation = 20-30% better energy savings. Don't skip this upsell.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BSR's total cumulative liability to you for any and all claims arising out of or related to the Service shall not exceed the total fees you paid BSR in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim. BSR is not liable for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, or any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, even if BSR has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to personal jurisdiction therein.
We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or via email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
